How my journey began.
I found those early weeks of new motherhood to be incredibly overwhelming & exhausting. I felt completely inadequate. Why couldn’t I do this? I work with babies & I should know what I’m doing! Even so, I struggled with feeding my baby, helping my baby sleep & finding time to take care of myself too. My mental health & my marriage suffered as I tried desperately to figure out who this new woman was.
She was nothing like I thought she would be.
I had to learn to allow myself grace & unearth realistic expectations of myself (& my baby!). Through tears & time, I eventually realized that I really was the best mother for my baby. I knew my baby best & she needed me to advocate for her until we had answers & a plan that worked. Along the way, I found a small community of women that heard my fears & met me with nothing but kindness, encouragement & hope. They cried with me. They laughed with me. They cheered me on. Without them, I don’t know how I would have survived those first few months of motherhood.
That Fourth Trimester can feel so lonely but we really don’t have to figure it all out on our own.
As I surrounded myself with new mothers, it became grossly apparent that when it comes to baby development, support is basically non-existent. Sure, your pediatrician is a wealth of general baby knowledge & an expert in pediatric medicine but they are not afforded the education or time to really support you through specific developmental concerns. It’s not their wheelhouse & that’s ok. Working intimately with parents & their babies, especially in the throws of new motherhood, I became increasingly frustrated with our reactive healthcare system.
Too often I heard “I was told to just wait & see.” or “My baby just hated tummy time & I didn’t know what to do.”
Sound familiar? Parents do not get the support they so desperately need & are asking for. This causes undue guilt, not to mention loss of critical time to intervene & increased healthcare costs in the long term. When the Pandemic hit, the whole therapy world pivoted to Telehealth practically overnight. This opened up a whole new virtual world & I started an Instagram page to provide parents near & far with education related to motor development while adding some sprinkles of real life motherhood in between. This passion page grew into offering online resources, virtual parent coaching sessions & classes supporting parents all around the world who were worrying endlessly over their little one’s development.
New possibilities appeared on the horizon.
As we emerged from the Pandemic, I realized I can help you prepare for & successfully support your baby’s natural development in person & online. I can help you feel at ease knowing your little one is “on track” & provide you with simple play ideas & home set-ups to meet your baby where they’re at on their own unique developmental journey. I can help you advocate for formal therapy services if that’s determined to be the best course of action for your family. Together, we can prevent & minimize the impact of developmental delays with early support & education.
Through individualized Tummy Time & Milestone Sessions, Flat Head Consultations, Baby Massage Lessons, Educational Classes, Developmental Playgroups & online resources, I’ll walk every step of the way with you through your baby’s development journey, from the early days of Tummy Time until their first steps into your arms.
Together, let’s cultivate confident parents & strong babies.
The other stuff….
Sarah graduated from Lebanon Valley College in 2015 with her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree & began her career as a licensed Physical Therapist working with adults in a hospital setting at a Level 1 Trauma center in Pennsylvania. She loved the intensity & fast-paced nature of the hospital but her heart was always longing for Pediatrics.
With thoughts of starting their own family, Sarah & her husband, Josh, decided to move closer to home in 2017. Sarah took the opportunity to start providing Early Intervention Physical Therapy to children from birth - 3 years old in homes & daycares throughout the state of Delaware. She continues to work part-time in this setting while growing into areas of outpatient Pediatric Physical Therapy, specializing in Torticollis, Flat Head & Delayed Milestones. She has a special interest in supporting parents on their feeding journeys & using her diverse skill set as a Physical Therapist to improve your baby’s ability to eat, sleep & move. Additionally, Sarah has experience providing home-health pediatric care to children through age 21.
Sarah & Josh welcomed their first sweet (& fierce), red-headed baby girl, Eloise, into the world in April 2019 & their second red-headed baby girl, Aubrey, in July 2021.
